In-Depth Description: Do You Really Know Yourself?

Achievers get their name from thriving to achieving big and impactful things in their lives. They are sometimes referred to as the “stars of humankind” because of their ambition to reach great accomplishments and contributions in the world. Due to their charm, confidence and image-conscious nature they are most definitely the most socially popular enneagram type.

As success comes in various forms and is often determined by society, not all Achievers aim for the same. Accomplishment can for some people mean money and status, for others academic and scientific achievements or even being a famous public figure. However, one thing stays the same: Achievers want to be remembered and valued. Their incarnation of socially respected qualities is what makes them a role model and inspiration for many.

Since they don’t want to feel worthless, they are great at adapting to what is currently seen as a good quality by others. It can therefore be hard for Achievers to detect what they are doing out of social pressure and what out of their own interest. In addition, to get ahead more quickly and efficiently they tend to store their feelings in a box and act purely rationally. It is not surprising that with time, they can lose touch with their core motives and personal emotions.

Enneagram Type 3 Growth Suggestions

Even the biggest achievers have their flaws. Accepting and being aware of them is the first step into personal growth. However, all enneagram types are different, which is why we have specifically focused these 5 recommendations on Achievers.

  1. Don’t hide your emotions:
Resist the temptation of doing things simply to be rewarded by others and do them because you genuinely want to. Accept your emotions as motivators instead of obstacles.
  2. Discover who you really are:
Learn to accept that you don’t need to be anyone else but yourself to achieve your goals and be valued. Don’t lose yourself by constantly adapting to your environment and figure out what is it that motivates you.
  3. Learn to take regular breaks:
Breaks are your friend. Taking time to take a quick breath will not set you back, it will only allow you to reconnect with yourself and focus on what matters. Don’t work yourself into madness, take care of your mental health as well.

  1. Appreciate what you have:
Your drive is inspiring and motivating, however, it can be hard for you to take a step back and appreciate the things you have already achieved. Every once in a while, take some time to not only tell your friends and family how much they mean to you, but also reflect back on your past accomplishments. Don’t undermine the things you have, be proud of them!
  2. You are not defined by your public image:
Your value does not lie in how the world sees you. Once you can accept this, you will not only be less bothered by negative comments but will also not feel the constant pressure of keeping up with society’s ever-changing demands. Appreciate yourself for who you are not who you think you are supposed to be
